Getting Started
To begin, email me at katie@wisdomwithin.me and we can find a time to meet. If you are in crisis, please call the Multnomah County Crisis Line at 503-988-4888 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.
What to Expect in your first Therapy Appointment
Prior to our first session, I will email you a link where you can access and complete a new client information packet. We will spend the first few minutes of our appointment reviewing your packet together.
For the remainder of the session, we will discuss your hopes and goals for therapy. If you don’t have a specific goal in mind, we can talk about aspects of your life where you’re hoping for growth and healing.
Once I have clarity about what it is you’re seeking, I will integrate appropriate theories and practices to develop a plan for our time together. This will include tools and resources you can use in your day-to-day life. As we get deeper into the work, I will check in to see if you feel we are heading in the right direction and moving at a pace that is comfortable to you.
The Wisdom Within You
Healing, growth and change often take time and courage. The number of sessions we have together will depend on your needs. Whether we meet for a few weeks, months or at different points throughout the year(s), counseling can help you gain insight into the origin of your thoughts and emotions, help you strengthen healthy patterns of thinking and communicating, and lead you to a place within yourself where you feel content and at peace.
Therapy may also lead to feelings of pain and vulnerability, and at these times you might feel hesitant to continue. I will honor your feelings while also encouraging you to do your best to endure these moments. It is here that profound and lasting transformation often begin.
Ending Therapy
Once you feel you have reached your goals or gained the insight you were seeking, we can create a plan to end our time together. Ideally we will have 1-2 closing sessions where you can reflect on what you’ve learned and set intentions for your continued well-being. If you find yourself needing support again in the future, feel free to give me a call. I provide counseling services to many individuals and couples who return over the years to address new challenges and transitions in their lives.
